Rachel & Dean’S DIY WEDDING

Summary

At Events Under Canvas, we help bring your ideal wedding to life. From simple DIY weddings to extravagant parties, we’ve got you covered. Our fantastic range of tipis and tents mean we have something for everyone. We go above and beyond to help our clients plan their dream venue, stress-free.

One memorable DIY wedding took place in the bride’s parents’ orchard. Whilst they did most of the hard work themselves, they invested in an on-the-day coordinator from Events Under Canvas to help their big day go smoothly.

We hope this customer testimonial can help you envision your perfect wedding!

Best Memory of The Day

“My favourite memory was just looking out around the orchard and seeing all of our friends and family together, drinking, dancing and having fun. It was terrific having everyone in one place. And the dancing! So much dancing.”

A CLOSER LOOK AT RACHEL & DEAN’S WEDDING

We wanted a relaxed, fun, colourful day, with lots of music, lots of flowers, delicious food and free-flowing drinks so we could hang out with our favourite people. We didn’t want anything stuffy or formal – that’s just not us. So we liked the idea of a tipi and went to an Events Under Canvas open day where we were inspired.

Once Rachel’s parents agreed to let us have the reception in their orchard, it was full steam ahead. We made a lot ourselves, from wooden signs in the garden to table plans, invitations to limoncello wedding favours. We supplied all the alcohol, so our guests could fully relax. And we also chose local suppliers who we couldn’t recommend more. This included six barrels of Maldon Gold ale from a local brewery, which went down a storm.

SHOUT OUT TO YOUR SUPPLIER AND WHY THEY DESERVE SUCH ACCOLADE:

Our favourite supplier, hands down, has to be Linda Hamilton from our caterers Gather and Feast. She was honestly incredible. Her team kept us and our guests fed and watered all day, and the dishes were simply delicious.

There were plenty of canapes throughout the day. Each table had three huge plates of piping hot Italian food to share. These consisted of spring green risotto, slow-cooked beef brisket cannelloni, and chicken arrabbiata. Our guests loved being able to help themselves – and a carby lunch was a godsend! In the evening, we had a BBQ from Gather and Feast, plus cakes and a cheeseboard, which Linda dressed for us even though we supplied them ourselves. Her team also handled the bar all evening – and were great fun.

YOUR TOP TIPS ON PLANNING YOUR WEDDING:

Even if you’re doing a DIY wedding, it’s worth paying for an on the day coordinator. The team at Events Under Canvas were worth their weight in gold. It meant she was also to do all the smaller jobs, so our guests and we didn’t have to get roped in – like moving the flowers from the church to the orchard, making sure our suppliers knew where to go, were paid etc. It meant everything ran smoothly, and we could just enjoy all our hard work.

IF YOU HAD YOUR TIME AGAIN WHAT WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY?

Nothing. Apart from maybe putting more Aperol behind the bar. Our guests couldn’t get enough!

WHAT MUSIC FEATURED ON YOUR BIG DAY:

Gary Nock performed acoustic guitar and sang during the drinks reception/canapes, and then The Somebody’s played two sets in the evening. Our guests filled the dance floor all night. A Spotify playlist kept us all going until the early hours.
