An Event Under Canvas – Introducing… (Part 2)

Tipi wedding show part 2

Welcome back! Last time on the blog (way back before the Beast from the East blew the blizzard in) we introduced four of the exceptional wedding suppliers joining us for our Event Under Canvas – the tipi and sailcloth tent showcase, in April.

We didn’t want to keep you waiting too long so today we are continuing to share the love by bringing you some insider info on four more of our lovely line-up. Today’s instalment features the flawless Scarlett Allen MUA, the marvellously melodic Sax Walker, the super stylish Our Pretty Wedding and the sparkling Prosecco O’Clock…

What are you waiting for? Get stuck in and meet some more of the crew!

Scarlett Allen Mua

About:

Scarlett has been studying and working in the world of make-up for over four years and she’s racked up some pretty impressive experience in that time. She has worked for the likes of Urban Decay and MAC, as well as getting up close to some famous faces on set for Pandora and Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model (think Elle ‘the legs’ MacPherson and Aussie pop icon Iggy Azalea to name just two). She’s a whizz with a make-up brush and as a result has become hugely popular amongst brides, birthday girls and festival-goers alike. We are over the moon that she’s going to be taking a break from the day job to join us in April (we like to think we can turn our hand to most things but even we have our limitations, and unfortunately our services do not extend to preparing the bride’s ‘canvas’ for the big day)!

We are however always being asked for recommendations of make-up artists who can offer that illusive summer radiance and Scarlett is one we are more than happy to suggest. We picked her brains to find out what her go to products are for creating the eternally popular ‘glowy’ look:

“My go to products would have to be Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow duo” she says. “It is absolutely show stopping! It slims, sculpts and highlights all in one. I would pair it with my favourite MAC FIX+ spray. A spritz of this vitamin infused spray will smooth, set and perfect, making your skin look like it’s glowing from within – the ideal look for your wedding day”.

Maybe it’s the tipi connection or our inner magpies but Scarlett’s striking festival-style make overs are among our favourites. We think they’d be absolutely perfect for the more adventurous bride-to-be, but she tells us that the natural, yet glamourous look is still the most popular amongst her clients:

“Every bride is so different but on the whole I would say the most requested look is definitely ‘natural glamour’. Brides want to look flawless, wearing minimal make-up that really shows off their best features and I thoroughly enjoy making people feel beautiful by doing just that”.

…YUM!

Top Tip:

Be the best version of yourself on your wedding day. These photographs are going to be some of your most cherished & meaningful images which you will look back on forever. Every bride wants to look perfect so I would avoid using your wedding to experiment, for example, if you have the complexion of an English Rose your wedding day is probably not the time to have your first spray tan. If a soft smoky eye and nude blush lip suits you and makes you feel beautiful then stick with it. Highlight your best features to ensure perfect pictures on your big day.

The Sax Walker

About:

David Walker – the name alone is music to our ears! Suffolk based David, AKA The Sax Walker, is the product of a very musical family and his passion for all things noisy started young. Learning the drums at five and the double bass not long after that, he finally picked up a saxophone at 14 and hasn’t looked back since (luckily for us).  Having fallen in love with its unique tone and personality, David had well and truly caught the bug and started performing for close friends and family at weddings about five years ago. He proved such as big hit that he regularly found himself on the receiving end of questions about why he hadn’t tried to develop his (considerable) skill into a business. So, that’s exactly what he did!

“For me personally, nothing beats the feeling of seeing an audience up dancing and enjoying my music” says David. “Nowadays I live a pretty hectic lifestyle. When I’m not performing I’m spending time with my family – I have a two year old daughter and another baby on the way! I also practice as much as I can and try to squeeze in a bit of networking, as well as keeping in touch with clients and dealing with new enquiries”.

We could listen to David play all day (to be honest he could bust out The Wheels On The Bus and we’re confident it would still sound amazing) so we asked him to delve deep into the repertoire and name his top three favourite songs to perform:

“The tracks I most like to perform change all the time as I’m constantly updating my playlist but, right now, I’m loving I Feel Good by James Brown, Can’t Stop The Feeling by Justin Timberlake and September by Earth, Wind & Fire”.

Whatever your musical preferences, be it soul, funk, pop, or modern day chart hits, I think it’s safe to say he’s got you covered.

David’s passion is evident from the moment you meet him and it’s clear that he takes huge pride in what he does. Whether he’s providing some midday entertainment or taking centre stage as the main event at the reception, you’ll love him, your guests will love him, everyone will love him…fact.

Top Tip:

This may be the first time you’ve ever had to book a musician so don’t be afraid to ask as many questions as you can think of, even if you think they may not be relevant!

How can people get in touch?

You can reach David through the contact form on his website; www.thesaxwalker.co.uk, give him a shout via his Facebook and Instagram pages, or you can pick up the phone and give him an old fashioned ring on 07849 493484.

Our Pretty Wedding

About:

Our Pretty Wedding are a mum and daughter team comprising Sue, Lauren and Jo. The trio are the best of friends and the perfect blend of styles and personalities, who have a habit of bringing each other to the point of hysterics with their own brand of humour and million mile an hour chatter (that’s probably why we’re so drawn to them).  Lauren is an experienced photographer in her own right, while Jo is an aspiring shutterbug and mum Sue is the in-house style guru. With Lauren’s own nuptials coming up later this year the ladies have certainly had planning on the brain of late and we have it on good authority that the men behind the scenes have been an invaluable source of sanity (read wine) as they take on other people’s big days alongside their own.

Their energy and enthusiasm for all things wedding is infectious. “We love weddings, we love flowers, we love creating things and capturing the memories to become part of history” they tell us. “I’m not sure you’ll find three people so committed to what they do as us, it consumes us – in a good way!”

If you’re just starting to plan, Our Pretty Wedding are an excellent port of call for support and inspiration – providing stationary, floristry, photography and exceptional styling. They are even cultivating their own garden where they’ll be growing everything they need to help them create their stunning displays.

It’s not all or nothing, though! Couples have the option to take the whole package, or pick and choose the parts that appeal most and we are going to be reaping the rewards of their excellent eye for detail under the canopy of our sailcloth tent during the showcase, where the ‘OPW’ gang will be setting some serious styling goals.

To get us in the mood we posed a little hypothetical styling conundrum, asking the ladies what kind of look they would create for the Royal wedding this May if they were given free rein:

“It’s going to be beautiful isn’t it!” says Lauren. “You just know. If and when Prince Harry gives us call, (although it’s more likely to be Meghan let’s face it) we would create a beautiful mood board full of big blousey peonies, draping pearls, very delicate styling with subtle colouring. It would be ‘Modern Elegance’, that is what we would like to see- crisp and smart and very very pretty.”

Meghan, Harry, you know where they are…

Top Tip:

Plan early if you can, one, it spreads the cost and two, so much goes into the big day! Also make peace with your dress getting dirty, lifting it around all day can be a burden and doesn’t make for great photographs! Oh, and above all enjoy it!

How can people get in touch?

You can find out more on the website www.ourprettywedding.co.uk, email Sue, Lauren and Jo at [email protected] or if you fancy a real life chat, give them a call on 07507599064.

Prosecco O’Clock

About:

We don’t need much of an excuse to pop open the prosecco so it was an absolute no brainer that we’d ask husband and wife team, Phil and Lesley, to join us for a glass of the bubbly stuff at the showcase in April. Determined to get out of the rat race, the pair decided to make the move to their beloved Aldeburgh early last year and, having been struck by inspiration during a trip to Palermo, wasted no time in seeking out the ideal vehicle to make their Prosecco O’Clock dream a reality.

“It took a lot of dedicated research to decide which prosecco would be the one for us” says Phil. “There was lots of tasting involved but we persevered and believe we now have it absolutely right”.

It certainly is a tough job, Phil, but someone’s gotta do it!

More and more people are looking to add that little something special to their wedding or party with a quirky twist on the traditional bar set up.  There are a whole host of alternatives available now, catering to every taste, and Prosecco O’Clock certainly deliver when it comes to extra sparkle. Their gorgeous little Piaggio Ape tuk-tuk has been lovingly converted into a mobile bar, with a built-in flash cooling system that means the team can serve glass after glass of Italy’s favourite sparkling wine at just the right temperature, and with just the right amount of fizz!  You can even mix things up and ask them to create one of their deliciously dangerous cocktails for your guests to enjoy.

The business has really taken off and they have wedding bookings coming out of their ears, but we asked Phil where else their tasty tuk-tuk will be parking up this year:

“This year we are looking forward to refreshing the crowds at music festivals, Great Yarmouth Air Show, a few carnivals and even a firework display or two – but of course everyone enjoys a wedding, and we always look forward to helping many more brides and grooms celebrate their big day”.

So, does enjoying the very best in sparking wine without the formality of bow-tied waiters sound good? …It’s a BIG YES from us.

Top Tip:

“Don’t worry! Whatever the occasion, you’ll be in very capable hands, everyone is going to have a great time, so just click your fingers, order a glass of Prosecco and relax.”

How can people get in touch?

You can find Phil and Lesly on Facebook, @ProseccoOclock, or Instagram, @prosecco_oclock. You can email them at [email protected], or you can take it old school and give them a call on 07901 978227.

We really are spoiling you. So many fan-flipping-tastic suppliers to peruse when you pop along to Great Gilberts Farm for our tipi and sailcloth tent showcase, and on top of all that – you get to meet us! If you don’t have the date in your diary yet now is the time. Make a note (in pen) to pay us a visit on 14th or 15th April and feel free to give us a shout in advance if you’d like to book in a time to chat with one of the team…
